Ruby is a resident of Langtree.

Appearance[]

Ruby is an old woman with light tan skin and short, curly white hair. She has a perpetual frown on her face, so she almost always looks grumpy.

Ruby wears a pale, mint green dress that goes down to her ankles and has puffy short sleeves. She also wears a pair of brown shoes, which are likely slippers.

Ruby is also seen sitting in a rocking chair in all of her appearances.

Personality[]

Before meeting Ruby, the Bard hears about her from several residents of Langtree. Francine and the Mayor describe her as a kind, gentle, and sweet woman, however harsh. This may be due to the loss of her husband, Ron. She is notably happier after his return as a ghost.

Upon meeting Ruby, she is quite grumpy and dismissive. She is a bit pessimistic, pointing out all the negative things around her; though, she is frustrated with the townspeople when they are depressed. She's rather temperamental, scolding the Bard for getting rid of the ghosts, and for bursting into her home singing.

While at a glance, she can be quite stubborn, upon persuasion, she will give in, as seen when asked to teach the Bard the Overseer song.

Story[]

Prior to the events of Wandersong, Ruby was tasked with singing a part of the Overseer song. This was when she was a young girl, and it was specifically her job to commune with the Overseer at the Tree of Slumber. He never spoke back, but Ruby continued with her task all the same. While it is unknown how often Ruby would engage in these rituals, the Mayor mentions that she would sing the song "ALL THE TIME."

Not too long before the beginning of the game, Ruby's husband Ron passed away. While he came back as a ghost to warn the town about the end of the world, Ruby was quite distraught, with other residents noticing a change in her demeanour. Everyone around town took the time to help Ruby during this stressful event.

Upon the Bard's arrival, Ruby is asked to share the Overseer song. Whilst at first, she is adamant in her refusal, she eventually gives in to the Mayor. She shares the song, stating she will only sing it once. When Ron returns as a ghost, she is quite happy about it.

Trivia[]

  • Ruby's name comes from the red-coloured gem of the same name. Interestingly, she shares a similar appearance to Saphy (Sapphire), whose name is also derived from a gem. Their similar appearance can be attributed to the fact they are both in their elderly years, whilst their names may relate to their important roles; Saphy is a witch, whilst Ruby partook in important rituals with the Overseer.
